Water Construction Projects

Capital Improvement Projects or CIPs are important for improving, maintaining and developing the City’s water and wastewater facilities as well as its infrastructure.  Each year city staff develops a plan for CIPs to be accomplished during the coming year as well as plan for projects in upcoming years.

Water Treatment Solids Handling Improvements

Approximately 40 to 60 million gallons of water per year at the Water Treatment Facility is transferred to the Wastewater Treatment Facility for  treatment. Implementation of the solids handling structure, will cycle 80%  of that water back into the drinking water treatment process.

Estimated Cost: $6,000,000
Project Duration: 4 years (2020-2024)



Water Treatment Chemical Building Improvements

The original chemical storage building at the Water Treatment Facility was built 40+ years ago. Improvements will include, major safety upgrades, storage tanks replacement, secondary containment improvements, ventilation upgrades, application of chemical resistant coating, and additional chemical feeding redundant systems.

Project Duration: 3 years (2023-2026)


Water Treatment Concrete Improvements

concrete and asphalt - CopyThis project is replacing the failed staircase on the northside of the operations building, adding curbs and gutters to mitigate drainage issues, and replacing asphalt along the main access road. Two flag poles will also be installed.

Estimated Cost: $185,000
Project Duration: 2 years (2023-2024)




Water Treatment Filter Improvements

filer gallery - CopyThis project will replace obsolete equipment and add an air scour system. These improvements will provide consistent filter backwash cycles, leading to longer filter operations and reduces the water usage for filter cleaning.

Congressionally Directed Spending Grant: $2,329,000
Northglenn Estimated Cost: $4,800,000
Project Duration: 3 years (2023-2025)



Water Infrastructure Replacement Program
Funds are allocated annual to replace sections of water distribution lines throughout the City.  Much of the City’s water infrastructure was installed in the 1960's and is showing its age.  Replacement of water lines reduces the risk of water line breaks, emergency repairs and interrupted water service.
Estimated Cost: $250,000
Project Duration: Annually (no end date)
