The Northglenn Historic Preservation Commission was created in 1997 to protect, preserve and enhance the city's cultural, social, economic, political and architectural heritage. The commission consists of seven regular and two alternate members that all serve three-year terms. The commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Alpine Room at the Northglenn Recreation Center, 11801 Community Center Drive.

Northglenn Residents Needed

The Northglenn Historical Preservation Commission is looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to help preserve the history of Northglenn. The following positions are available:

  • Historian/museum - Collect, catalog, clean, repair, care for and store historic objects. Arrange museum exhibits, and interpret them for the public. Oversee the care and up-keep of museum quarters.
  • Librarian - Collect, catalog, clean, repair, care for and arrange historical books, manuscripts, newspapers, photographs and other library materials.
  • Public relations - Promote programs, membership and funding of historical preservation through published information, lecture, radio and television programs.

The NHPC is also in search for people with the following professional qualifications: history, archeology, architectural history and architecture.

Stonehocker Property

The Thede Farmhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places and the State Register of Historic Properties in 1998. The farmhouse is commonly referred to as the Stonehocker House. It sits at the center of Stonehocker Park on the eastern edge of the city boundary.

The commission is currently working to restore the Thede House as a museum and cultural center, showing the history of homesteading in Colorado.
