Top Code Enforcement Violations

Code enforcement can be confusing for residents. What is a violation? What isn’t?

The city’s Neighborhood Services Officers, who handle Municipal Code violations in Northglenn, would like to help out by providing the top 10 violations that they run into on a day-to-day basis.

1. Littering on Public Property:
Littering includes any items not designed for outdoor storage, including auto parts or piles of green waste or other debris. Code: 9-11-14

2. Grass and Weed Height Control:
Grass and weeds should be less than 8 inches high. Code: 9-11-27(a)(b)

3. Illegal Vehicles:
All cars parked in view of the public, including the driveway or street, must be generally intact, operable and have current license plates. Code: 11-46-2

4. Overhanging Trees and Shrubs:
Overhanging tree branches must be at least 14 feet above the street and 8 feet above a public sidewalk. Also, trees and branches can’t block the view of a traffic sign or signal. Code: 9-11-29

5. Weed Control:
All developed properties must be maintained substantially weed-free. Code: 9-11-27(a)

6. Graffiti:
Please call 303-252-3849 to report graffiti as soon as you notice it – either on private or public property. The sooner it is removed, the less likely that spot will be tagged again. The city has a program to help remove graffiti from private property, free of charge. Code: 9-11-29.5(b)

7. Dead or Diseased Trees and Shrubs:
Trees, tree limbs, shrubs and other vegetation that are dead, broken, diseased or infested by insects must be removed. They could endanger property, people or other vegetation. Code: 9-11-28

8. Snow and Ice on Sidewalks:
Sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice 48 hours after the stop of snowfall. If the ice or packed snow cannot be removed without damage, sand or salt must be put down. Code: 16-1-2

9. Residential Landscaping:
Yards must be landscaped with grass, rock or mulch. Code: 11-6-14

10. Vehicle Parked on an Unapproved Surface

Vehicles must be parked on an approved surface such as cement or pavers. Code 11-7-3(c)(2)
