For a municipal government, the budget represents anticipated income and expenditures for the upcoming year.

In Northglenn, preparation for the next year's budget starts in mid-summer, and must be submitted to City Council in September and adopted in December.

Besides financial projections, Northglenn's budget includes a message from the city manager which includes an outline of the financial policies for the upcoming year, important features, and major changes from the previous year, among other items.

For the city of Northglenn, most of its income is from sales tax on products bought in the city, but the city also receives funds from property taxes, fines and forfeits, charges and fees as well as licenses and permits.

In terms of expenditures, the budget shows where a city's priorities are, from funding a police department, to upkeep of roads and infrastructure to hosting social events for the community.
