Parks, Trails and Open Space

Within its borders, the city oversees 25 parks and open spaces that cover more than 250 acres. These parks are connected by the 28 miles of the Greenway Trail System, which criss-cross the city and connect with some of the major trail systems of the Denver area.

City parks are open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Within our parks, you can:
• Ride on pedal boatsin the middle of Webster Lake at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park as ducks and geese swim by.
• Visit the children’s playground at E.B. Rains Park, which has been honored as one of the best in the north metro area.
• Take your poochies to the Happy Tails Dog Park at Bill Goodspeed Park
• Go fishing at the Croke Reservoir Nature Area or Webster Lake
• And much more!

Open Space

People of Colorado value undeveloped natural land perhaps more than any other state, and we’re no different here in Northglenn.

The city has designated open spaces that are outdoor areas of vegetation and other natural features that can support a diverse wildlife habitat and opportunities for people to move about, relax and experience nature.

Northglenn has two designated open space areas:
• Northwest Open Space and the adjacent Oscar Arnold Nature Area, located southeast of 112th Avenue and Pecos Street, is a prairie environment with tall native grasses, old trees and a pioneer flavor. Also, Northwest Open Space recreation area is a hub of youth sports with several multi-use athletic fields.
• Croke Reservoir is located near Huron Street and Naiad Drive. Nature lovers can sit along the shore under the shade of the big cottonwoods, fish or stroll around the reservoir observing the waterfowl and wildlife. The city completed a massive renovation to the eastern shore in 2009, adding amenities and accessibility for all visitors.

A healthy open space ecosystem cannot exist in urban settings without management, so the city developed an Open Space Management Plan to guide the maintenance activities for each open space area.
