Ward 1 City Council Member Peterson Resigns

City of Northglenn Ward 1 Council Member Randall Peterson resigned his office on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021. No reason was stated in the resignation. Peterson was appointed as a Ward 1 representative by City Council on Jan. 6, 2020, after the election of Meredith Leighty as mayor.  His term in office would have expired in November 2021.

City Council will discuss the vacancy at their next meeting on Sept. 13. The City Charter specifies the process of filling vacant City Council positions; appointees only serve until the next general municipal election. Due to the timing and term expiration date, it is unlikely an appointment process will take place. If that is the outcome after the Sept. 13 council discussion, the position will remain vacant until after the Nov. 2, 2021 election.

Update: City Council discussed the vacancy on Sept. 13
and decided the position will remain vacant until after the election.
