The City of Northglenn turns 50 this year and to celebrate the milestone, Northglenn Arts is installing its first-ever public art mural. In partnership with the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation (NAHF), the mural will be located in the pedestrian tunnel under I-25 that links the Northglenn Civic Center to the RTD Wagon Road Park-N-Ride. The project not only celebrates Northglenn’s 50th Anniversary but will help to beautify a heavily-used pedestrian thoroughfare.
Scheduled to be installed in the spring and summer of this year, a public dedication and celebration of the completed mural will occur at the city's July 4th festivities. A public art committee comprised of Northglenn citizen’s and arts advocates met in the fall of 2018 to select muralist Chad Bolsinger of Denver, Colorado to design and complete the installation. Over 40 artists submitted from around the country and Mr. Bolsinger was selected for his bold site-appropriate style and insight into interpreting the pride in Northglenn by residents.
On February 5, 2019, Northglenn residents are encouraged to attend the “50 Years of Photos Open House” that will kick off the tunnel mural project. Please bring your favorite photo of Northglenn from the last 50 years, to be scanned and recorded as inspiration for the project. Not all photos will be directly used for the project, but the collection of photos provided by the public will be the source material and inspiration for the muralist design process.
At the open house, you will also get a chance to speak with the artist, submit inspiring memories of Northglenn, and more.
Located in the Northglenn Senior Center, the event is free to attend and light refreshments will be available. Stop by anytime between 6:30 and 8:30pm. Make sure to bring a copy of your photo or bring the original and we’ll scan it for you. Please provide the exact location of the photo and the year it was taken.
The Senior Center is located inside the Northglenn Recreation Center at 11801 Community Center Drive.
