Q&A With Council Member Duran Mullica

Get to Know Your Council Member

How Long Have You Lived in Northglenn?
I've lived in Northglenn for almost 10 years. My husband and I bought our first home here!
What Neighborhood/Area Do You Live In?
We live in the community north of the Northglenn Marketplace and just south of Community Center Drive.
What Do You Like Most About Northglenn?
I love Northglenn's open spaces, its access to a great school district and the amazing community members we've been able to get to know over the years.
Education and Career Experience

One thing you need to know about me is I'm passionate about public health!  I graduated with my master's in public health back in 2010 from CU. Since then I’ve worked at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and in acute care hospitals in the Denver area focusing on healthcare-associated infections epidemiology. I'm currently an infection preventionist at SCL Health, where I help support local infection preventionists in preventing healthcare-associated infections and improving healthcare quality.

Tell Us About Your Family

I married my high school sweetheart, Kyle Mullica, and we have three beautiful kids – ages 6, 4, and 1.

How Have You Gotten Involved in the Community?

One of my favorite volunteer positions prior to being elected was serving on the Mapleton Education Foundation Board. I was born and raised in Thornton and attended Mapleton Public Schools from pre-k to high school. I loved the opportunity to give back to an amazing school district that contributed so much to my life. I received a college scholarship from the Mapleton Education Foundation and I felt truly humbled to have the opportunity to give scholarships out to other students who were just like me.

Why Did You Run for Office?
There were many reasons why I ran, but mainly I really enjoyed living in Northglenn and I was excited about the momentum and the direction the city was going. I wanted to be a part of that and contribute to Northglenn's success. I was very excited about the possibility of the new Northglenn Recreation Center, Senior Center and Theatre, and served on the Citizens Advisory Committee which really helped motivate me to run. Northglenn is a really special community and I wanted to do my part in preserving our charm and continuing to make this an amazing place to raise families.
What Community Issues Are You Most Interested in Addressing?

There is so much happening in our city right now! I think it’s really important to stay focused on the large projects we already have going on in the city and make sure they are completed on time and on budget. We have to continue to work towards the completion of the Civic Center Master Plan and continue to support the revitalization of the Northglenn Marketplace.

What Regional Issues Are You Most Interested in Addressing?

It’s important that Northglenn has a seat at the table for issues pertaining to RTD and CDOT. I chair the North Area Transportation Alliance for 2020 and I'm advocating for completion of the
N Line and supporting projects that improve Interstate 25.

Additionally, I am passionate about decreasing access to tobacco for our youth, addressing the youth vaping epidemic and working with our neighbors to address homelessness.
