City Council Candidate Information

Candidate Qualifications

To be eligible to run for the office of Council member, individuals must meet the following criteria:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be a registered voter
• Must be a resident of Northglenn for a minimum of one year immediately preceding the election
• Council member candidates must also be a resident of their respective ward for a minimum of 32 days immediately preceding nomination
• Must have no felony convictions

Compensation

City Council members currently receive a monthly honorarium in the following amounts.
• $974.05 per month – Mayor
• $800.11 per month – Mayor Pro Tem
• $695.75 per month – Council
• Each member of the Council receives a monthly stipend of $370 for business expenses

How do I become a candidate?

• You must file a notarized candidate affidavit with the City Clerk within 10 days of publicly announcing your intention to seek election. Forms are available in the City Clerk’s Office.
• You become a candidate when you publicly announce and thereafter accept a contribution or make an expenditure in support of the candidacy.
• You must submit a nomination petition to the City Clerk to get your name on the ballot.
• Petitions can only be circulated Aug. 4 through 24. Signed petitions must be filed with the City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 24.
• Nomination petitions must be signed by at least 25 registered electors within your ward.

Attend City Council meetings. Regular meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers; study sessions are held on the first and third Monday at 6 p.m.
