The City offers a variety of sports for youth and adults throughout the year. This includes leagues, tournaments and camps.

For some youth sports, the city partners with the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA). The main goal of CARA is the development of skills, sportsmanship, and participation to assure that each participant experiences a degree of success.

Adult Sports (18+)

Basketball
Leagues are hosted year-round for different skill levels. Games are held on Mondays (Competitive Division) and Wednesdays (Recreational Division) at the Northglenn Recreation Center.

  • 40 and Over Basketball
    Leagues are offered in the Winter and fall for persons who turn 40 that year. Leagues will either be offered on Sunday in the Winter or Tuesday evenings in the Fall.


Softball

Leagues are hosted at Jaycee Park in the summer and fall and follow The American Softball Association (ASA) guidelines. Teams must pay 50% of the fee to register. Up to 14 players can be on a team. Only three home runs may be hit per game in either league.

  • Recreation League
    Best for teams wanting some fun and enjoyment.  Teams are comprised of players with a broad range of skill levels with most having average playing experience.
  • Leisure League
    Best for teams wanting enjoyment and not worried about wins or losses.  Teams have 3-6 average skilled players with remaining players having little playing experience teams that are just playing for fun and exercise.


Pickleball

Northglenn is offering outdoor leagues this Summer so grab your paddle and come have some fun. Leagues take place on Monday and Tuesday nights. We have two different level of play, Beginner and Intermediate/Advance. This will be a 6-week program. Also, don’t forget about our drop-in pickleball Monday-Friday.

Youth Sports

Basketball
Junior Nuggets Youth Basketball Leagues
The City of Northglenn has a partnership with The Denver Nuggets and offers youth co-ed basketball leagues in the winter, spring and fall.

Divisions and competition levels are as follows:

  • First/second grade (NO score is kept)
  • Third/fourth grade (Recreational league)
  • Fifth/sixth grade (Recreational and competitive leagues)
  • Seventh/eighth grade (Recreational and competitive leagues)
Games are played on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Northglenn Recreation Center or a school in Northglenn. Practices are held one night a week.
Players receive a Junior Nuggets jersey and a ticket to a Denver Nuggets game.


Lil Dunksters
The Lil Dunksters basketball program is geared toward beginners that are interested in being introduced to the game of basketball.  Participants will practice for 20 to 30 minutes and play a game directly after practice on Sundays during the Fall and Winter seasons.

EYG - Elevation Basketball Camp
Do you love playing the game? Do you dream of being your best? If so, you will love every minute of the Elevation Basketball Academy. Challenge the way you think about practice, development, and basketball camp. You’ll perform the same dynamic and cutting-edge drills used by NCAA and high school players, but we’ll break down the drills and concepts so that you can have the same edge over the competition that they do. Elevate your skills to become a more skilled and confident player.

Baseball
These summer co-ed leagues are non-competitive. Sportsmanship and fundamentals are the focus and youth with no experience are welcome.

Two levels of baseball are offered:

  • T-ball (ages 4-6)
  • Coach pitch (ages 7-9)


Cross Country (CARA)

This fall co-ed league begins training in the late August. The team will compete against other cities and agencies from around the region. Races are 2K to 5K (1.24 miles -3.1 miles) depending on the age level and are held on Saturdays throughout the metro area. Meet shirts will be supplied. Practices are Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., typically at Northwest Open Space. Cross Country meets will be held in September and October. For age 6 to 14

Soccer
Programs take place on Friday mornings during the summer at Northwest Open Spaces in Northglenn. No experience is required as each program division is non-competitive; sportsmanship and fundamentals are the focal point.

Northglenn offers two soccer divisions:
  • Mighty Mites (ages 3-5)
  • Grassroots 4v4 (ages 5-7)


Swimming (Northglenn Fusion)
This program is under the USA swimming umbrella and offers opportunities to youth ages 5 to 18 years old and post-grads.  Training times and schedules vary based upon group placement and athletes' goals.

Track (CARA)

This summer team introduces participants to track and field for age 5 to 15. Practices are 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Silver Hills Middle School, 12400 Huron St. in Westminster. They will be held three times a week for the first two weeks, then shift to two days a week after that. Participants will compete against other CARA track teams on Saturdays starting in mid-June.

Volleyball (CARA)
Fall and spring leagues available for youth. Leagues are divided into the following grades:

  • Second through fourth
  • Fifth and sixth
  • Seventh and eighth

Participants practice either on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday at the Northglenn Recreation Center. Seasons include two to three Saturday tournaments at locations in the metro area.

Special Events

6 Foot & Under Basketball Tournament
Adults 6-feet-tall and under can hoop it up in this 4 vs. 4 tournament. Rims will be set at 8.5 feet tall and dunking is allowed. Teams have four to eight players, and they must provide white and black shirts or jerseys. The single-elimination tournament is limited to 12 teams. All squads are guaranteed at least three games. Players must be at least 18 years old. Cost is $120 per team.

Mudapalooza
Get out the duct tape and old t-shirt for Mudapalooza, the City’s adult co-ed mud volleyball tournament at Northwest Open Space. Get your team of 8 to 12 players.  This summer round robin event guarantees at least five games to all participants. Teams have 8 players on the court, with half of the players must be female. All participants must be at least 18 years old.

Paddle & Run
This spring running race with a twist includes:

  • Start with a 2-mile run at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park
  • Continue with a half-mile kayak trip around Webster Lake
  • Finish with a 2-mile run

You can participate as an individual or as a two-person team. This event is for all levels of padding and running. Kayaks and life jackets will be supplied.

Wiffleball Tournament – Adult
Gather a team of three to five players for this one-day summer event at Northwest Open Space. During play there are three players in the field (one pitcher, two fielders).  Home run distances are 85 to 125 feet.  Participants must be at least 18 years old. Cost is $120 per team. Awards are given to the top teams. All participants receive t-shirts. All teams play at least three games.

Wiffleball Tournament – Youth
Gather a team of four to six players for this one-day event at Northwest Open Space. During play there are three players in the field (one pitcher, two fielders).  Home run distances are 85 to 125 feet.  Age divisions are:

  • Ages 9/10
  • Ages 11/12
  • Ages 13/14
  • High school

Cost is $120 per team. Awards are given to the top teams. All participants receive t-shirts. All teams play at least three games.
