Urban Renewal Plan Update
City Council unanimously approved three resolutions regarding Northglenn's urban renewal areas and plans during a special council meeting on Dec. 17. These included:
• CR-141: Resolution Determining That Certain Real Property Constitutes a "Blighted Area"
• CR-142: Resolution Approving A Substantial Modification to Current Urban Renewal Plan
• CR-143: Resolution Approving a New Urban Renewal Plan 2
• Urban Renewal Plan Presentation to Council on Dec. 17, 2012
Northglenn is updating its Urban Renewal Plan. The goal is to study properties within and outside current urban renewal areas (URAs), to determine if conditions exist that meet the state requirements for designation as URAs. The Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority (NURA) has retained Ricker|Cunningham to conduct a new conditions study and update the current Plan.
Ricker|Cunningham is a leading Colorado independent real estate advisory firm specializing in urban renewal and facilitating public-private redevelopment projects. Over the past 26 years they have consulted with more than 100 municipalities and counties throughout the United States, and have assisted over 50 Colorado communities in the urban renewal plan process.
During the evaluation process, NURA will make recommendations to City Council as to which areas to include in the city’s URAs, and whether those areas should be independent URAs, or if they should be subareas within a single URA. Upon completion of the conditions study, and after receiving public input, City Council will consider continuing and/or expanding existing URAs, as well as possibly designating new areas based on their ability to qualify under the Colorado Urban Renewal Statute.
