Trash FAQ

Alternate Waste Disposal Guide - For Items That Cannot Go In A Polycart

What day is my trash picked up?

Trash is collected Monday through Friday.
• Monday: Northeast section of city, south part of Fox Run
• Tuesday: Southeast section of city, west part of Fox Run
• Wednesday: Central section of city (between I-25 and Washington Street, east part of Fox Run)
• Thursday: West section of city (west of I-25, north of 104th Avenue)
• Friday: Southwest section of city (south of 104th Avenue)

What holidays does the trash service observe?

Trash is not collected on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. If your trash day falls on one of these holidays, your trash will be picked up on the next business day.

What kind of trash can am I supposed to use?

Normal trash must be placed in a city-provided polycart. The only exceptions are curbside recycling of automotive batteries, antifreeze and or/motor oil. Residents can place up to three polycarts out at one time. Extra polycarts can be purchased from the city by calling 303-450-4004. The city has three sizes available:
• 40 gallons, which holds 168 pounds and costs $45
• 64 gallons, which holds 224 pounds and costs $58
• 96 gallons, which holds 335 pounds and costs $60.
This fee can be charged to your utility bill.

Why do I have to purchase a polycart from the city?

The city has concerns about equipment compatibility, cart damage and warranties. The polycarts purchased from the city are guaranteed to work with the city's trucks and have a 10-year warranty.

Why did the city switch to automated trash collection?

Automated trash collection allows for increased productivity, which allows the city to offer residents curbside recycling services.

How much does it cost for trash pick up?

The monthly fee for trash pick up is $12.25 per month. The fee is added to your utility bill.

What's a special pick up?

A special pick up is for a large item that does not fit in your polycart. You get two free special pick ups a year. Additional special pick ups are $7.50 for up to 10 items. Additional items are subject to additional fees. Special pick ups are collected on your regular trash day. Appliances containing Freon, tires and other items may involve an additional fee.

What will you pick up on a special pick up?

Things like appliances, furniture, lawnmowers, etc. constitute a special pick up. However, there are items the landfill won't accept, so the city will not pick those up - i.e. hazardous waste, medical waste and propane tanks.

What items will not be collected in a special pick up?

Trash bags, carpeting, fencing material, concrete, boxes, bundled tree branches, and building or construction material will not be collected.

How do I set up a special pick up?

Call the Operations Division at 303-450-4004 and give an itemized list of what you would like picked up. Please keep in mind the solid waste crews will only pick up what is on the special pick up ticket. You must call no later than 2:30 p.m. one business day prior to your collection day.

How do I get rid of my hazardous waste?

Download the Northglenn Waste Disposal Guide (right), which will detail where you can bring items that cannot or should not be thrown away. If you have any questions, please call 303-450-4004.

Does the city rent roll-offs?

Yes. The roll-offs are $180 for three days; this includes delivery, pick up and disposal. Delivery can be on Mondays with pick up on Thursdays, or delivery on Fridays with pick up on Mondays.

What if my trash wasn't picked up?

It was probably overweight, not out on time or not properly prepared. The city has rules and regulations that we ask our residents to follow to allow a safe and efficient service. Make sure your polycart is out by 7 a.m. on your trash day. Ensure that cars are not obstructing your trash. Make sure your polycart(s) or other approved disposal items are properly set out and prepared.

How can I dispose of my green waste?

The city accepts all kinds of green waste - clippings, tree branches, leaves, etc. - at its Green Waste Recycling Center, located at the Maintenance and Operations Facility, 12301 Claude Court. Proof of residency is required, such as a driver's license or current utility bill. No contractors are allowed. Single axle trailers only. All loads must be covered. Please call for dates and times of operation.

Also, on your trash day, the city will pick up two automotive batteries per week and up to five gallons of motor oil/antifreeze in clear one-gallon containers with your name and address written on the container.
