The Planning and Development Department administers the city's land use and development functions in the Building Division, Planning Division and Neighborhood Services Division.

The department also guides the city's ongoing development and redevelopment activities by recruiting new investment and working to integrate new development projects into the existing fabric of the city. By coordinating the city's land development-related activities, the department helps achieve the city's goals of attracting and retaining quality businesses and improving the city's image as a desirable place to live and work.

The Planning and Development Department focuses on the physical development of the city, which includes working on a Comprehensive Plan and advising and aiding the the city's Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
