special projects division

The Special Projects Division involves management of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA Accreditation) project, Adams County Youth Initiative, the Career Development Program and other special projects as assigned.

CALEA Accreditation is an internal process through which the Northglenn Police Department seeks to achieve, objectively verify, and maintain high quality in its operations. CALEA Accreditation is an intense three-year process of agency self-assessment that will be reviewed and evaluated by an independent, non-governmental body that has established professional standards applicable to law enforcement agencies. The accreditation process is a management model and a blueprint for self-improvement, which strengthens accountability within the agency and to the community it serves. (CALEA Process and Programs Guide; 1.1 Accreditation Concept)

The Adams County Youth Initiative is a multi-agency, multi-emphasis collaboration between the school districts in Adams County/Broomfield County, all police jurisdictions in the 17th Judicial District, the Juvenile Justice system in the 17th Judicial District, Social Services/Mental Health, and other partnerships formed throughout the combined counties, to identify at-risk youth in all grades of primary education to limit the risk of failure, and to assist these youth in completing their schooling and having successful and productive adult lives.

Northglenn Police Department has chosen to participate in a career development program to enhance an officer’s ability to follow a chosen path in their personal career development, and to assist the agency in gauging the best course of action for training needs and the development of the officers and Sergeants within its sworn ranks.
