Every 4th of July celebration, the City's precision rafting teams get ready for a rematch at the annual Mayor's Cup Raft Race. It's a race against time and other City officials! You can expect to see elected officials from Federal Heights, Thornton, Broomfield, Commerce City, and Northglenn as they compete to claim VICTORY in the name of their City. The racecourse starts at the boat dock located on the southwest corner of Webster Lake at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park. Rafters will paddle their rafts across the lake, around the big Firecracker in the lake, and then back to the boat dock.

The city's Open Space Management Plan guides the unique maintenance activities utilized for each specific area of designated open space. The plan is dynamic and is evaluated each year to measure success, as healthy open space ecosystems cannot exist in urban settings without management.
Since open space is vital to the quality of life in Northglenn, active management of open space areas is required. Active management enhances wildlife habitats, alleviates noxious weed infestation, lessens human impact and ensures water quality. | | Noxious weed control
The city has enacted a Noxious Weed Management Plan to meet the regulations established by the state in the Noxious Weed Act. The plan stipulates that on any public property the city must implement measures to control noxious weeds. Currently there are 58 weed species on the State Noxious Weed List. This includes Canada Thistle and a recent invader, Mediterranean Sage.
There are four types of weed control considered for use in open space: biological, chemical, mechanical and cultural. The city can turn insects loose on the weeds (biological), spray (chemical) or mow (mechanical). In addition, steps may be taken to encourage growth of favorable vegetation (cultural). Sometimes all the methods are used to gain a cumulative effect.
The goal of the city is to keep the population of noxious weeds as low as possible by regularly treating existing infestations and eliminating new ones as soon as they are identified.
Please review the Weed Identification packet to help you identify noxious weeds.
