Residents and business owners using dogs to guard or protect personal or real property must obtain a permit from the City Clerk's office.

Guard dogs must be kept securely confined within a building or enclosure, and safeguards must be taken to protect against accidental or unintentional entry by any person. Signs must be posted to notify others of the presence of the guard dog(s) and any guard dog not licensed may be seized or impounded by animal control officers.
No vicious dogs, as defined in Section 14-2-9 of the municipal code, shall be licensed as a guard dog.
