The Croke Reservoir Nature Area, located off of Huron Street north of Naiad Drive, provides a perfect arena for fishing, a leisurely stroll, or just a place to sit and relax. The eastern shore recently went through a major construction project to enhance the amenities and accessibility.

Art on Parade

The Art on Parade program is an on-loan outdoor sculpture exhibit administered through the Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF). Each year, six sculptures are chosen by city staff and volunteers to sit in and around E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park. Guests and art lovers are then invited to select their favorite, which then is named the People's Choice. The NAHF then tries to purchase the piece and place it in a permanent location in Northglenn.

All Art on Parade pieces are up for sale. For more information or to inquire about purchasing a piece of sculpture, contact Michael Stricker at 303-450-8727 or mstricker@northglenn.org.

Double Spinner Named People's Choice Winner

The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) announced today that New Mexico artist Lyman Whitaker is the recipient of the 2009/2010 Peoples Choice Award for his copper and stainless steel sculpture, Double Spinner.

The award is part of Northglenn's Art on Parade program. The program features on-loan, outdoor sculpture exhibited at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park for one year. The public votes for their favorite, and NAHF works toward purchasing the piece for permanent display in the city of Northglenn.

NAHF has already secured funding for the piece from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). Double Spinner is copper and stainless steel, 16 high, and will be purchased for $6,000.

Lyman has been a practicing sculptor for over 40 years, with a unique knowledge of materials and their application. Wind Sculptures™ are innovative and artistic with a high degree of mechanical integrity; they are well respected for their quality craftsmanship and have been installed in public places throughout the U.S.

The piece will remain on display in E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park through May 2010, at which time six new sculptures on loan will be installed. The permanent location for Double Spinner will be announced in the fall of 2010.

For more information about Art on Parade or NAHF, call Michael Stricker at 303-450-8727. The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides funding for quality youth theatre, public art, and other cultural endeavors in our community. NAHF was founded in 1990.
