Don't Leave Cars Running

During the winter, it’s tempting to go inside and leave your vehicle running so it can defrost or stay warm.

Police refer to these vehicles as ‘puffers’ – and they make prime targets for thieves. The harm goes beyond the hassle and heartache of reporting and possibly replacing the vehicle.

Thieves often use the stolen vehicles to commit other crimes, or they can use documents, keys and garage door openers to wreak havoc on your identity, security or peace of mind.

Thankfully, the solution is simple. Do not leave your car running unattended. That includes warming it up in your driveway, going into a convenience store or even pumping gas.

If you want to make sure you have a warm car in the morning, consider a remote starter. The keys aren’t in the vehicle, making it harder for thieves to steal.
