July 4th Family Festival
6:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Thurs., July 4, 2013, E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park, 11801 Community Center Drive
The city is looking forward to hosting its signature event, the July 4th Family Festival. This free celebration will be held at the Civic Center and award-winning E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park, located across the street from City Hall at 11701 Community Center Drive. Food and community booths will be set up on 118th and Community Center Drive and just west of Webster Lake in the park. The event has been described as a large family picnic. people come prepared to spend the day in the park. This is an alcohol free/family friendly event.
Northglenn July 4th Car Show
The city’s second annual July 4th Car Show will include new, classic, vintage, antique, hot rod and rat rod cars as well as motorcycles and trucks. The car show will be set up just west of the Northglenn Veterans Memorial on Community Center Drive. Trophies will be awarded for first place winners in each decade (or combined decade) and ribbons will be awarded for second place winners in each decade as voted on by qualified judges. Plus trophies will be awarded in the areas of People’s Choice, Best Engine, Best Interior, and Best Paint as voted on by the public. We invite you to join us for this exciting event! Firecrackers and Flapjacks Run
Kick the day off with the Firecrackers and Flapjacks Run. The 4-mile run will begin at the park and follow the Highline Canal to Winburn Park before heading back to the beginning. For those less competitive, join in the half-mile fun run that loops around Webster Lake.
Register for the race before July 2 for $30. Sign up on July 3 or on race day and the fee jumps to $35. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female winners, as well as the top three finishers in six age groups. A T-shirt and pancake breakfast is included in your registration fee.

Senior Organization Bake Sale
If you’re looking for a tasty treat, don’t miss the Northglenn Senior Organization Bake Sale. They will be offering wonderful desserts and a delicious array of homemade goodies. The bake sale will begin at 8 a.m. and last until all items are sold. Please note that their booth will be set up near the boathouse.
Water Play
Enjoy free informal water activities in celebration of Northglenn’s Playful City USA designation for the sixth year. Activities will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tent will be located southwest of the boathouse. And now go out and play!
Bike, Trike and Wheelchair Parade and Patriotic Pooch Parade
Taking center stage in red, white, blue and FREE is the Bike, Trike and Wheelchair Parade. Participants ages 3 to 11 are invited to show their patriotic spirit by decorating their bike, trike or wheelchair with stars and stripes or anything that screams USA! The registration canopy will be set up in the northwest section of the park and the parade route will follow the circular path around the lake in that area.
Following that is the Patriotic Pooch Parade. Make your caring canine into a walking USA billboard. All dogs must be on a leash and have current vaccinations.
Registration for both parades run from 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. as the parade will start at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be given in three age groups. This patriotic event is sponsored by the Northglenn Senior Center.
Pavilion Rental
Also keep in mind that the Ponderosa and Blue Spruce Pavilions are available for rent from noon to 10:30 p.m. The rental fee is $250 for residents and $350 for non-residents. All other pavilions are available and can be reserved for $145 for residents and $175 for non-residents. Pavilion rental is available on a first-come, first-served basis and payment is due at the time of the reservation. Don’t miss out; call 303-450-8800 to reserve your pavilion.
Road Detour and Closure
Community Center Drive at the section bordering E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to 12 midnight for the event. Traffic will be detoured around City Hall. Community Center Drive will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. until approximately 10 p.m. for the fireworks show. Please plan to take an alternate route. Parking will be available in the lot just north of the park and behind City Hall. A drop off area will be available in the west parking lot of the park to make it easy for our guests to drop off large items. Handicap parking spaces will be available in the west parking lot off of Community Center Drive; you will need a handicap placard.
The Andy Hackbarth Band Concert
A free concert by the Andy Hackbarth Band will entertain our guests between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. in the southeast area of the park. Instilling the American folk tradition with his indie pop sensibilities,
singer-songwriter Andy Hackbarth creates music bearing the stamp of the contemporary West and is one of few indie artists who preserves the folk ethic of acoustic instrumentation. He also weaves together seemingly disparate musical traditions such as 19th century Spanish Romanticism, jazz standards, the classical masters and contemporary indie rock.
Fireworks Display
Proximate fireworks set to music will be displayed on Webster Lake at 9:30 p.m. The best view of the fireworks will be near the lake. If the fireworks are not shot by 10 p.m. due to inclement weather, they will be fired on Friday, July 5, at 9:30 p.m.
