Citizen Radar Traffic Team
The purpose of the Citizen’s Traffic Radar Team is to reduce speeding in our community through a collaborative partnership between citizens and the Northglenn Police Department. Our ultimate goal is to reduce and prevent vehicle accidents, which will make Northglenn a safer place to live and work.
Speeding and traffic violations have always been a concern to the police department and we realize that we can’t witness every violation that occurs in our community. However, the Citizen’s Traffic Radar Team can expand our ability to educate citizens and reduce speeding in our neighborhoods.
A trained volunteer will use a radar device to monitor and record vehicles speeding in selected neighborhoods. The volunteer will log the vehicle’s license plate number and a letter will be sent to the registered owner informing them about the violation. There’s no fine or ticket issued. The use of volunteers can be a safe, effective, and efficient method for increasing traffic safety and providing education to citizens.
The Citizen’s Radar Traffic Team is designed to give residents a responsible role in keeping the streets of Northglenn safe and free from dangerous speeding vehicles. More importantly, it’s about keeping our kids and families safe.
The Citizen’s Radar Traffic Team is staffed with volunteers from the Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association of Northglenn (CPAAAN). These volunteers have been through the Citizen’s Police Academy and understand the need for trained volunteers. To find out more about CPAAAN visit their Web page at www.northglenncpaaa.org.
To request the Citizens’ Radar Traffic Team conduct a speed survey in your neighborhood, please contact the Traffic Unit (pdtraffic@northglenn.org) or 303-450-8854.
